Increased royalty for mountain climbing to be implemented from Bhadra 16 (September 1, 2025). The government has increased the price of climbing Mount Everest in the spring season from 11,000 US dollars (1,532,818 rupees) per person to 15,000 dollars (2,09,206 rupees).

21 Magh, Kathmandu. The government will implement an increased fee (royalty) for mountain climbing next year.

According to Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the date for the implementation of the increased fee for mountain climbing has been fixed from Bhadra 16, 2082 (September 1, 2025).

Before that date, climbing permits will be issued at the same fee as before. The government recently approved the Mountain Climbing (Sixth Amendment) Regulations 2081.

This regulation has increased the climbing fee. However, the regulation states that the previous fee will be applicable in the upcoming mountain climbing season.

Mountaineering royalty increased, now $15,000 to climb Everest

The government has increased the salute fee to be paid by each member of the foreign mountaineering team climbing the mountain. The government has increased the price of climbing Everest in the spring season from $11,000 (Rs. 1,532,818) per person to $15,000 (Rs. 2,09,206) per person.

The price of other routes on Everest has been increased to $10,000 in the spring season, $5,000 in the autumn season, and $2,500 in the winter and rainy seasons.

Similarly, the price for the autumn season has been increased to $7,500 and the price for the winter and rainy seasons has been increased to $3,750. This price is for the normal route (southeast flank) of Everest.

The price of other routes to Everest has been increased to $10,000 in the spring, $5,000 in the autumn, and $2,500 in the winter and rainy seasons.

How much for the mountains other than Everest?

According to the new price, climbing other mountains above 8,000 meters except Everest has been set at $3,000 in the spring. The other two seasons have been increased to $1,500 and $750 respectively.

Similarly, climbing Manaslu has been increased to $1,500 in the spring and $3,000 and $1,500 in the other two seasons. Climbing mountains between 7,501 meters and 8,000 meters has been increased to $1,000 and $250 in the other two seasons.

To climb Mount Ama Dablam, you will have to pay $1,000 each in the spring and autumn and $500 in the other seasons. For mountains below 600 meters, the same fee of $350 and $175 has been set.

How much has Nepali citizens reached?

The government has also increased the climbing fee for Nepali citizens. Earlier, the fee for the normal route of Everest, which was 75,000 rupees per person, has been increased to 150,000 rupees. It has been increased to 75,000 in the autumn and 37,500 in the winter and rainy seasons.

Everest climbing is encouraging: More than 500 million rupees in revenue raised

On other routes of Everest, Nepali citizens will have to pay a fee of 100,000 rupees in the spring season and 50,000 and 25,000 rupees in the other two seasons. For other mountains above 8,000 meters, 40,000, 25,000, and 12,500 rupees have been set respectively.

Similarly, Nepalis will have to pay a fee of 20,000, 10,000, and 5,000 rupees respectively to climb mountains below 6,000 meters.

A helper is mandatory for two climbers

Now, climbers going to climb mountains higher than 8,000 meters will have to increase the number of helpers.

Previously, there was a provision that at least one mountain guide should be taken with you when going on a mountaineering trip, but now, for every two climbers going to mountains above 8,000 meters, including Mount Everest, one helper is required. For mountains lower than that, each team must take at least one helper.

Paragliding is allowed when returning from the mountain

Now, climbers can get permission and paraglide when returning from the mountain. Earlier, there was a provision that they had to descend on foot.

There was a provision that helicopters could be used in emergencies. Now, if a paragliding service is allowed to operate from any part of the mountain, any member of the mountaineering team can use such a service. In emergencies, helicopters, balloons or airplanes can be used.
