The average daily expenditure per tourist in Nepal has increased by about 4 US dollars. In present Expenditure of tourists in Nepal has increased. According to the data of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, until December 2080, a tourist spends an average of $44.50 per day.

As of January 2079, the average daily expenditure per tourist was only $40.50. Based on this, it seems that the expenditure of tourists in Nepal has increased by 3.9 dollars in one year.

It is mentioned in the semi-annual review report of the Ministry that both tourist arrivals and expenditures in Nepal have increased during this period. With the increase in tourist arrivals, the expenditure also seems to increase. In 2023, Nepal welcomed 14 lakh 14 thousand 871 tourists.

Fiscal year (2078/79) (2021) Due to low tourist arrivals during the COVID-19 epidemic, the daily expenditure per tourist was $48.

At that time, as the number of tourists coming for mountain climbing and hiking was high, the expenses and length of stay were also high. The average stay per tourist that year was 15.5 days. As tourist arrivals increase, both length of stay and cost decrease on average.

Significant improvement in income from tourists

According to Nepal Rastra Bank, along with the improvement in tourist arrivals, the income from tourism has also increased significantly. In the first 6 months of the current financial year 2080/81, the income from tourists is 39 billion 56 million rupees.

This is 44.4 percent more than the same period last year. By the end of November 2079/80, tourism income was 27 billion 40 million rupees.

Although there has been a significant improvement in tourism income, the service account seems to be in deficit due to the large amount of money going abroad for education from Nepal. It is known from the statistics that Nepalese people who go abroad from Nepal also take a large amount of money abroad along with education.

According to the data of the National Bank, 33 billion 92 million rupees went abroad in the first 6 months of the current financial year.

According to the data of the Immigration Department, in 2023, 24,518 Nepalis went on tour as tourists. Out of them, 71 thousand 698 Nepalis have gone to India for tourist and tourism purposes.

The ministry’s capital expenditure is weak

In the first 6 months of the current year, the capital expenditure of the Ministry of Tourism has been weak. The ministry has spent 27.77 percent of the total budget in 6 months.

Out of which capital expenditure is 16.57 percent of the target and current expenditure is 47.78 percent of the target. The ministry is implementing a budget worth Rs 5.32 billion this year. Out of which only 1.47 billion has been spent.
